0w30 is generally good stuff. The Mobil 1 0w30 actually has higher viscosity at operating temps than their 10w30. I have had oil consumption using their regular (not Extended Performance) 5w30, but none with the 0w30. Don't let the "0" scare you. German made Castrol Syntec in 0w30 is one of the better 30 weight oils you can buy.
@ECHO Talking . 0w20 versus 5w20 so, you are saying that the vehicle knows the difference between the two at least that is what you implied earlier. Don't have the time or inclination to belabor the point. I'm sure other's here will reply to you 8-) In closing Anyone here say they had a code thrown for using 5w20. No .. I for one have run 5w20 for 16,000 miles and never a RL 5W-20 is a very unique oil with a HTHS vis of 3.3cP which means it is actually heavier than most 30wt's. M1 0W-30 has a HTHS vis' of 3.06cP which is fairly light for a 30wt but is still much heavier than any typical 5W-20 oil at all temp's above -20C. The OP. L. Motor Oil Viscosity. Motor oil viscosity means the range of the flow of the Oil inside your car's engine. For example, 0w40 means that the motor oil viscosity is easy to flow as it has a zero-weight grade during winter. The 5w30 is not wintered viscosity friendly; it means it works only during hot season perfectly.
The difference between 0w20 and 0w30 is slight. BMW went from recommending 30 to 20 to get perhaps another half a mile per gallon or so towards their CAFE, and so long as the engine lasts through the warranty period that's what matters to them. I decided to stay with 5w-30 for better protection, but with better oil than the Shell or Pennzoil or

The 0w30 motor happens to be thicker than the 0w20 when used during Summer. Can I use 0w30 instead of 0w20? Using it, even once, can do serious damage to your engine if it's spec'd for 0w20. What is the difference between OW 20 and OW 40? The difference is the oil viscosity when the engine reach is operational temperature. The w40 have
